One of the most important things about playing poker is to keep a cool head despite the nature of the cards your holding and try not to react good or bad.

Something I have had practice at in the past.
As for the rules it is quite simple, they vairy from game type to game type but the skellington structure is like this.
the object of the game to to try and obtain a good card combo such as a “Royal Flush” or a “Straight flush”.
These card combos are as following-The order I have set up is going from weakest to strongest going downward.
1 pair- This like it sounds is a pair of the same card in your hand, for example two 3’s
2 pair- The same as above only with two pairs of the same card
3 of a kind- As the name hints this is when you get three of the same card in your hand for example, three 6’s
Straight- This is when the cards in your hand go up in order, for example, Ace, 2, 3, 4 and 5
Flush- This is when you have cards all from the same suit for example, all the cards in your hands are spades, for this to count they must be consecutive.
Full House- The way to get a full house is to have any three cards of the same rank togeather such as 3 aces and two cards of the same rank such as 2 kings.
4 of a kind- To get this is very rare, and like a 3 of a kind you must get all four cards of the same kind in your hand for example, 4 aces
Straight flush- This is like a normal flush only all the cards are of the same suit, for example the 4 of clubs, the 5 of clubs, the 6 of clubs, the 7 of clubs, the 8 of clubs and the 9 of clubs
Royal Flush- the most saught after card hand in poker, the ultimate hand. to get this you must have All the cards from a ten to an ace with all five cards of the same suit.

And now for the rules themselves.
keep this in mind that these are the rules of Texas Hold’em and there are other versions of the game, but I’m sure your friend will exaplaine the rules if he/she chooses another version of the game. I am also explaining this asuming there is the maxium amount of people so you can adapt from there.
One player acts as dealer. This position is called the button and it rotates clockwise after every hand.
The two players to the left of the dealer are called the small blind and the big blind, respectively.
These two positions require forced bets of a pre-determined amount and are the only players to put money in the pot before the cards are dealt (if no ante in place).
Every player then receives two cards face down. These are called “hole” cards.
Once all hole cards have been dealt, the first betting round begins with the player sitting immediately to the left of the big blind. This player can fold, call (match the amount of the big blind) or raise.
Betting then continues clockwise, with each player having the option to fold, call the amount of the highest bet before them, bet or raise.
When the first betting round is completed, three community cards are flipped face up on the table. This is called the flop.
The second round of betting begins with the first remaining player seated to the left of the button. The betting resumes, clockwise, with each player having the option to check (if no bet in front of them), bet (or raise if a bet before them), call or fold.
When the second round of betting is finished, a fourth community card is flipped face up on the table. This is called the turn.
The third round of betting commences with the first remaining player sitting to the left of the button.
When the third round of betting is over, a fifth community card is flipped face up on the table. This is called the river.
The fourth round of betting starts with the first remaining player seated to the left of the button. The betting continues to move clockwise.
Once the river betting round has been completed, the players now enter into the showdown. At this point, the best hand wins the pot (amounts bet). Here are the rules for a Hold’em showdown;
The player who bet on the river is the default first player to reveal their hand. If any other players choose to show their hand first, that is OK.
If no betting happened on the river (all players checked), the player closest to the left of the dealer must open their hand first, continuing clockwise around the table.
If a player is holding a losing hand, it is their option to reveal their cards or simply muck their hand and concede the pot.
I hope this helped you and I wish you the best of luck in your game with your friend, you can learn a lot about a person over a game of cards your know.
